Homework:
My philosophy is simple. Homework exists to serve 3 purposes:
1. to practice what we learned that day after a break; make sure we didn't forget it
2. to prepare for the next day's lesson
3. to improve our basic skills (reading, basic computation, handwriting) as needed
The LCE handbook says fourth grade HW will take about 45 minutes per night plus 150 minutes of reading per week. I will be certain all HW adheres to my stated philosophy above, or it will not be given. If HW is taking you much longer than that, please let me know right away.
Specific nightly homework will not be posted as we are encouraging the students to be responsible for their tasks. However, please remember: Students should review Study Files nightly. Reading150 minutes or more per week is expected. Planners should be checked daily and updated weekly with newsletters to reflect upcoming tests, project dates, and book clubs. CML is due every other week.
Don't forget the students have online access to their Math, SS, and Science books. This can save them from carrying those heavy books home, and they also have extra material that can help your child! Links to these books may be found on their student portal, and each subject page on our website. There is a tutorial for math and SS on our forms/notes page.
